Croc ShoppingI just saw a segment in The Golf Channel’s Golf Central today about Croc shoes making their way to caddies’ feet. They claim to be comfortable because of the special rubber-like material that “melts” at body temperature and form a fit to the feet. The shoe has also become a fashion trend, and it’s the rage in Asia. I have yet to try this myself. Right now I prefer to stay away from it because it’s too trendy (Loafers and Espadrilles anyone?) and also, as my wife Yantie found this article on CNN, it’s potentially dangerous for kids. Consequently, my daughter Kaitlyn, will not be wearing Crocs any time soon. But what about the so-called comfort the caddies rave about? I may want to try it just for that reason. Don’t they use Crocs as gardening shoes? Maybe that’ll be the practical application for me. However, the thought of working in the garden without socks scares me, since I’ve been bitten by insects that caused massive swelling and itch on my toes.

    hey Rudy,
Saw this post on your “random post” feature. Have you tried Crocs yet? I used to think they looked silly (and still do) but I tried a pair a year ago and have been wearing them ever since (even if they do look silly). They are extremely light and comfortable. That said, I wouldn’t recommend them for little kids, as the few little kids I have seen wearing them seem to always be tripping.
    Anyway, Go Crocs!

PS. I tried checking the CNN link, but the page is gone. I guess that can happen after a year.

“Related post” feature, but random post is close enough. 😉

I have tried it for a few minutes (in the store) and felt kinda wobbly. Maybe I should give another chance. If golf caddies use them, they can’t be wrong.

URL links are not reliable alright. I should’ve taken a quote and paste it here. Anyway, this goggle search link will show related posts on crocs and escalators.

    hey Rudy,
I thought they felt big and floppy when I tried them, but bought them anyway. They take a little getting used to.
Thanks for the goggle (or google? 🙂 ) search link. I didn’t know you were referring to escalators. I had heard this story before and rolled my eyes. I can’t see how one could get a croc stuck in an escalator, but I did a little research and I guess it has happened, and I wouldn’t want to be the parent to deal with it. That said and to put it in perspective, I read on one report that the FCC had gotten 65 crocs-in-escalator complaints. Then on an ABC news report I read this:
“The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates about 10,000 people go to the emergency room every year after accidents on escalators. Of those, 20 percent involved having hands, feet or shoes trapped.”

I think the moral is that regardless of what one is wearing on their feet, one should be careful on escalators and watch their children.

I know work croc bistro shoes have come out for the restaurant and hospital workplaces, but I was surprised when I read your article about golf caddies wearing them, they seem to be popping up everywhere.

Today, I went too the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and
gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off
topic but I hadd to tell someone!
