Super Mario GalaxyAddicted to this fun Wii video game? I understand. Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games that comes along and grabs your attention in a big way. The game play is totally fun and unique. The animation is superb. There are a lot of levels in the game, and some have plenty of details that makes you want to revisit over and over again.

So, here’s my Top 10 list. They are signs that you (and I) have been playing way too much Super Mario Galaxy, when…

10. You see a turtle, you pick it up, and toss it at the next annoying person you see.
9. You like running around in circles.
8. You become restless, can’t sleep at night, thinking who can you invite to play co-op mode with tomorrow?
7. You think the high-pitched voice intro of “Super Mario Galaxy” is kinda cute.
6. You approach a light switch, you do a spin attack.
5. You won’t let your kid touch the Wiimote because you’re too busy shaking it.
4. You crank the audio into a receiver and 5.1 speakers to hear the full glory of Dolby Prologic II music and sound effects.
3. You chuckle gleefully like a Luma being fed with star bits.
2. You have an argument with yourself about who is hotter: the Princess or Rosalina.
1. You keep screaming, “One more galaxy!” after a few hours of game time.

Thanks to IGN for their SMG screenshots.

  1. I admit, I’d be happy to see any of those signs if I had a Wii. My kids play playstation 2 and I’m just not into those games. But buying a new console doesn’t seem likely. Ah well…

Shandra: I also have a Playstation 2 that is collecting dust since 2004. We bought it because of DDR-Max, something my wife and I could enjoy. But we got tired of it. I bought 2 other games for the PS2 and couldn’t be bothered to play with them anymore.

The Wii is so much fun, it’s worth taking the plunge to get a new game console. I bet if you try it at a friend’s place or something, you’ll be hooked. That’s how we got into it.

  3. Mr.Pinoy says:

Im a big fan of Super Mario games too.
I have a Nintendo and SNES collection of Super Mario Bros. when I was in grade school. I really missed those days (…ahhh…nostalgia).

  4. rudyamid says:

My first Nintendo was the Gameboy. I had Mario on that one too, played it for hours.

  5. Andrew says:

Hah! Great list here. I’m dying to play it myself, actually. But I’m waiting just a bit till my 4 1/2 year-old son’s a little older so he can join me. (He’s obsessed with Mario, but has never played any of the RPG-types yet.)

But wait, can you really play online co-op with it?!?

  6. rudyamid says:

I think the SMG co-op mode is not for on-line. It would be nice if it was though.

  7. Lindie says:

    I have one to add…

When you collect starbits in your dreams

  8. This reminds me of my friend Pete the other day. He’s an avid Call of Duty player, on the game every day. The other day he was on his way home from work, heard a helicopter overhead and had a sudden urge to shoot it down.

I live near a major freeway. Since the traffic is always heavy, the news helicopters keep flying overhead. I just want to shoot them down because they make so much noise while passing by; annoys the heck out of me.

So I can’t blame video games for violence. 🙂

  10. […] game for the Wii. Luckily, last November 2007, Nintendo gave me Super Mario Galaxy which kept me busy while I waited for this release. Now that I’ve got it, I can’t seem to get over the […]

  11. Emma says:

this is so true haha, i love the little lumas so much, i neary cried when his little white luma got taken away at the end, and also might be gettin lumas tattooed on me, yes i am very obessesed with this game =D

  12. rudyamid says:

Hi Emma. I’m glad you like the game and the Top 10 list.

  13. David Rader says:

I’ve never played this game, but this makes me want to! lol very funny man

It’s cool how when clicking on your images they open up on page! 😀

  14. rudyamid says:

    Hi David,

If you can find a Wii console, then you must get this game! Words can’t really describe the complexity and beauty of this game.

As for the images open up in a page, I’m using a WordPress plugin called Lightbox. It’s a neat Javascript app. Give it a try, I think it’ll improve the page’s functionality.

  15. David Rader says:

If you like games with some complexity and beauty to them, there’s an original Playstation game called Nitrous Oxide that you may enjoy.

It’s quite a is psychedelic experience… When I found the boundaries of this game to play to its limits, another time I played it and it seemed as those confines didn’t exist as I had previously believed… It was a mind-opening experience… It was banned from production some years ago due to its high likelihood of inducing (photosensitive?) seizures 🙁 , but my friend had managed to get a copy.

It honestly scares me a tad to play it because my perception of reality while even observing this game had become distorted… This reminds me of the subjectiveness of reality… The great thing about it though, was so long as I kept my wits about me, I learned from each experience too, gaining what has hopefully been more clarity in my perception.

  16. rudyamid says:

    Hi David,

Well, I don’t want to play a game that’ll give an epileptic attack. 😉 But this game sounds interesting, I’ll rent/borrow it on the Playstation 2, if they still have it.

Playing video games is an immersible experience. If you can sit down and play for hours, the game gets you to be in that world. You’re right, my reality at the moment is in that game. Sometimes difficult to pull myself out of it.

  17. Junior says:

This game sounds very interesting so i will give a try to see what thrill it will give me.

  18. ive never played this version of mario, but as all other mario games, it sounds addicting, i will have to play it sometime soon 😛

  19. Ahhh yes, Super Mario Galaxy. We have this at work (we have a Wii in our game / lunch room). It’s pretty fun. Recently, however, it has been replaced by Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I don’t see it. I like Galaxy a lot more.

As everyone plays Smash, I quietly move to the table top Galaga / Ms. Pac Man game…sigh…

  20. rudyamid says:

You’re right. I bought the Super Smash Bros. Brawl game and it’s collecting dust now. I’m now into Mario Kart Wii. I still play SMG, though.

  21. Justin says:

My favorite part of Mario Galaxy is when Mario is the bee. I agree with @rudyamid I’m into Mario Kart Wii right now.

  22. rudyamid says:

    Hey Justin,

More new games coming to Wii. Gonna be an exciting November.

  23. […] – I started to upload videos that I may use on my blog. My first YouTube video was for the Super Mario Galaxy post. I have a bunch more video from my Samsung u740 cell phone to upload, but the 3gp file format […]

  25. Remember those days playing mario on nintendo 64 all the time with my little brother. I was addicted at a point of time.

  26. […] Nothing ground breaking except for a faster loading time and less story telling.  Since I’ve played the first Super Mario Galaxy enough times, I’m comfortable with the controls, and jumped right into it.  Covered the first two […]

  28. One more point:
    11. It’s 5 a clock in the morning, back are hurts, eyes are red, and you keep saying to yourself, why can’t i beat this galaxy?
