We went to Baja Fresh.  It was a warm and sunny day when we talked about:

  • The free burrito offer with a drink purchase.  I had the Steak Mexicano.  Not bad for only $1.59!
  • Bollywood and Korean movies.  Bollywood has a lot of singing and dancing, while Korean ones have a lot of crying.   Mentioned a different type of Korean movie called Gwoemul (The Host).  It’s a monster movie with anti-American messages, and poked fun at the Korean culture.
  • Bicycle shopping.  A co-worker and I are interested in buying one.  I’ll be dropping by a local bike shop to look around.  I’m tempted to get a hybrid electric version, but that would defeat the purpose.
  • Cheap housing at Inland Empire.  We were told a 3-bedroom house can be bought for $100k!  Mortgage will be about $600/month, which is awesome!  But there might be many offers for them.  OC Register did report less foreclosures on the inland side.
  • Long term contracting.  Some companies like hiring long-term consultants.
  • The pains of American work visas.  One day I’ll need to dedicate a post (or two) to chronicle my experience.

*Hybrid Electric Bike: I don’t think it would defeat the purpose to get one, unless your only purpose was exercise, but even then, you could just save the engine for when you were tired and when you weren’t tired, the engine weight/resistance would just add a bit more to the workout.

*American Work Visas: I know a little about American work visas, because my friend from Thailand was here on student visa which permits temporary work status. He wanted to stay living here because he liked it, but including a work visa, we couldn’t find any legal way for him to stay, so he had to go back to Thailand. It really sucked. He would have made a great addition to our country… But I think maybe Thailand needs him more. There is a lot of unrest there I think, and he has a good heart.

    Hey David,

Good points. Another problem with hybrid-electric bicycles is I can’t use it during rainy/wet days. But then again, there’s hardly any rain in Southern California.

I can understand why a lot of people from Asia wants to move to North America. A lot of Asian countries are unstable. Indonesia just got bombings recently. Malaysia is struggling with language issues. Korea is still divided. India is in economic/labor crisis.

The Host was a great movie. I’ve tried to see some Bolywood productions but failed every time. I know that American movies are not in best shapes recent years but those Indian productions are just so bad that I can imagine anything worse than that. Everything is bad there except maybe for costumes (but I’m not familiar with Indian type of wearing clothes). The directory is horrible, dialogs stiff, story unbelievably naive and simple, songs just not my type. For me those films are the worst kind of movies that can be given to the world.

    Hi Zegarki,

Yeah, I couldn’t get into Bollywood movies neither. It’s a cultural thing, I suppose.
