Earlier this year, I blogged about Johnny Lee’s project on using the Wii-mote to track head movement in 3D. The project had a lot of potential. Sure enough, he’s now featured in TED, re-presenting the same project. This time he’s got Electronics Arts developing an “easter egg” or a hidden feature in a game (not yet disclosed) that uses the $10 head tracking infrared gear. His website featured the other projects he was working on, such as the electronic whiteboard. That gear is already being used by teachers all over the world. For $40, I’ll get one just because it looks so cool!

Here’s his TED presentation video. He got a standing ovation for it.

Thanks for the update! I wonder if people like he realize how people like you have helped spread awareness of his creation… I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have heard of him at all, even still if it weren’t for you… I would probably be just another person using just “another thing” without any appreciation for its beginnings.

Well, I try to spread as much good news as possible. I’m sure this guy will be famous by his own merits, with or without me blogging about him. He credits YouTube as his vehicle of success, and you can see why. His invention is best explained by video. Just awe inspiring.
