My Dad gave me a golf putter with an adjustable shaft when I was 8 years old.  As I was growing taller, the adjustable height was a good and economical idea.  So now, I read about the existence of telescopic and loft adjustable golf club for irons and woods, and I said to myself, “They can’t be serious marketing this stuff to adults?!”

Problem with having one adjustable club, the weight of the club will always be the same at different lengths.  The weight of the club head, combined with the length of the shaft, has an influence on the MOI and swing plane.   With the adjustable club, the different MOI on various lengths would require swing adjustments.  This is contrary to good golf mechanics.  It’ll make a difference in the way I groove my swing for consistency.

As a regular weekend golfer, I may not be able to tell the difference.  I can’t help but wonder though, should I be doing what the professionals are not doing?

    Hi Rudy

There is no valid reason for a 3 iron to be longer than a 7 iron – The loft can be adjusted and the distance spacing between adjacent clubs the same as now ……………. Search Armour EQL or visit http://www.1irongolf.com

Tradition has a 3 iron longer – that is it – tradition

That said _ A pure one club set is impractical (a driver needs to be 43+ in, but a wedge or 6 iron of that length is pretty awkward) but a 3 or 4 club set say: driver wedge iron & putter is possible?

    Hey Simon,

Well, DivnickGolf is definitely doing it: 34 clubs in one. It’s the ultimate recreational (read: not serious) golf equipment. Whether or not it’s something we all should do is a matter of preference. Personally, I wouldn’t do this. I would carry at least 3 clubs: putter, iron(s), and wood(s).

    Hi

    I agree

There are serious compromises with one club –

The Divinck is only OK – I have one _ as a 2 or 3 iron it is near useless

So basically you have a 4 iron to wedge

Has it’s place but really just for very recreational play

I agree – There needs to be a minimum of 3 or 4 ……….. so you have golf similar to where we are now

14 is excessive and hinders the game a touch (weight cost anti-walking)

Then again 18 holes hinders the game – but I won’t get any support there!

    Ew golf.

lol j/k Its good to read these things even though I don’t care for golf… I never thought that there’d be such considerations (like weight) though it makes a lot of sense!
