I’m not about to point out Nordstrom is reducing their prices to become the next Walmart.  Instead, I’m trying to note what someone said to me a couple of years ago.   The idea was to get a Dollar Store item from an upscale department store.  The idea was to get a much better quality product for a day-to-day item that we take for granted.  It’s an interesting gift idea.

What is an example of a Dollar Store item?  Try this nail clipper.  It’s the best nail clipper I ever had!  I use it all the time for the past two years.  It still clips my nails cleanly.

I’m going to start thinking what other Dollar Store gift item I can get from Nordstrom.

  1. LOL! My Boss is by far the hardest person on my Xmas gift list. Even my husband is easier, which is saying ALOT. My boss is the kind of guy who “has everything” and anything he might want, he just goes and buys for himself. Every year I get stuck on what to buy for Da Boss. I’ve been considering getting him a GPS navigation system since he travels quite a bit to go fishing/hunting etc. I just don’t want to have to spend THAT much on a gift for him, so I may have to shop around and see where the price breaks and sales are.

Heh. I think its silly to buy things that we expect to last, like nail clippers, from the dollar store. Buying perishables from the dollar store I can understand – like face towels, socks, mitts, gloves, wrapping paper, ribbon, candles… you get the picture. Of course kids’ toys are included in this because let’s face it, toys just don’t last with kids.

Needless to say I don’t buy presents for people from the dollar store. If I’m going to give a cheap gift, I bake them something nice instead. If I couldn’t bake, I’d probably draw or paint them something. There is always something that is of better quality that you can get someone for Christmas that is cheap that is NOT from the dollar store.

(k, so is it obvious that I’m really against giving gifts from the dollar store? yes? good! :D)

@Lin: I’m in the same predicament: what to get for the boss? I do have one advantage. The team is going to pool the money and we’re going to get her something expensive. So we may just go to Nordstrom and pick something. 😉

@Reggy: I don’t draw, cook, crochet, or any arts & crafts. It’s gonna be hard for me to do something home made. As for the dollar store, how about buying 100 items of a dollar stuff? 😀

I think theirs a Nordstrom in Vallco Fashion Park, but I never went in it. Didnt know they were dropping their prices. Why cant Best Buy do the same? 🙂

LOL No!! Damnit! I’m sure there’s something you can do yourself that would make a cool gift what about something geeky? Could you make a home slide show “movie” for someone using photos you have of them?

@Farzan: Nordstrom is not dropping prices. I was just comparing a dollar store merchandise equivalent in Nordstrom. With much higher prices, of course.

@Reggy: Anything I can send via E-mail is too cheap, I think. A home made DVD disc might be nice.

Well duh! I never said to email it to them. You gotta give them something a little more tangible! And print your own DVD cover too!! 😀
