It’s been 9 years since I was in Canada.  Toronto to be exact. I grew up there, so it’s still the biggest part of me.  Many fond memories.  I still have a lot of childhood friends living there, and those who I used to work with.

This Christmas, I’m blessed and excited to be going back to Canada for a big family reunion.   It’s a rare moment when we all converge into one place.

It’s going to be hectic and chaotic.  Logistics will be a problem since we can’t (really) cram everyone into a house.  My little sister has to drive us from the airport – I’m sure she’s memorized the terminals by now.  Then I’ll have to get a rental car since I can’t rely on the bus or subways all the time.  Besides, I’m a Californian now, so driving is a necessary thing to do.

Then there’s the weather.  Last I heard, it’s -12C or 10F, with the wind chill factor!  ZOMG!  This dude from Southern California is going to be popsicled!  On the bright side, there’ll be snow.  I hope it hasn’t turned to ice by the time we get there.  That’ll make one dicey driving condition.

Despite the weather, the busy schedule, and the expenses spent on this travel, I’m looking forward to meet my entire family and friends.  A bonus is seeing the beautiful city of Toronto once again.  I was told it has changed quite a bit.  I’ll probably spend most of my time downtown, and shopping at Pacific Mall uptown.  I’ll definitely be doing a lot of eating there, especially the Cantonese foods1!

Now I have to go and brush up on my metrics measurements, and recollect my Canadian lingos:  washrooms, center, expressways, Molson beer, for sure, eh?

  1. Hey Rudy,

Merry Christmas to you and yours! Have a safe trip to Toronto and enjoy the time with family and eating all the great food there!

    Brrrrr – it’s ca-ca-cold in Canada!

It’s been ages since I’ve been to Toronto and I can’t really say I remember much at all anymore. Except trying to figure out the measurements and lingo. I failed miserably. 🙂

    Hi Lin,

Toronto is just too cold, you’re right. It was freezing rain and gloomy skies all week. Not to mention losing my luggage.

But our Christmas party was great. The reunion was the highlight of the trip.

I’ll write up what I found about Toronto in a later post.

-12 C is not so bad 😉 Syberian villages doesn’t have a comfort of having temperature above 0C. Some Russian cities like Jakuck have minimal temperatures at level of even -67C. That is just one big hard core for me. And Toronto is a beautiful city, with snow should look pretty impressive 🙂
