Compact Fluorescent BulbFor the past 2 years, Yantie and I have been going around the house trying to replace every single lightbulbs to one of those energy efficient ones, called “Compact Fluorescent” bulbs.  Those CF bulbs use up much less energy (upto 4x less) and last way longer.  Around the house, I counted about 34 bulbs replaced with CF bulbs.  We still have some that haven’t been replaced because they require dimmable (hallways) and aesthetically pleasing look (vanity).   The ones we’re currently replacing are the 3-way bulbs that we’ll get from EFI.org for the living room and guest bedroom.

There’s an article in cbc.ca that reported province of Ontario, Canada, is planning to ban the sale and use of regular bulbs (incandescent) by 2012.  This move will be equivalent to removing 250,000 cars off the road — that’s a LOT of pollution removed!  Canada is still behind Australia in the move but they’re getting there.  Meanwhile, USA is lagging behind on this initiative but with enough political pressure this country will follow.  Well, I say it starts with us, the regular folks.  With grants from the local utility companies, I think we can do it!

I understand the reasoning for keeping the hallway bulbs, but why not the vanity mirror bulbs? FWIW, we replaced all the vanity blubs with those swirly ones and haven’t really noticed. Just think of them as “decorative” bulbs 😀

There are actually energy efficient vanity globe lights, being sold at Walmart. I saw them yesterday, cost $14 for a 3-pack. They’re not sold online at their website, which is kinda weird. But then again, they sell the dimmable CFL R30’s floodlights online, not at the stores.

  3. Good going! one just need an initiative to bring about a change.
