Zach Johnson at 2007 MastersWell, that was a different Masters, eh?  The US major championships now feature some of the best “Tiger-Proofing” techniques: narrow fairways, thick rough, slippery greens with crazy breaks, etc.  It’s great to see Phil, Tiger, Ernie, Sergio, Vijay, the best of the best, struggle a lot more to EARN their right to win.  As much as I like to see birdies and players making good shots, it could get boring fast if they keep getting them.  Those rare birdies are like eagles, the harder it gets, the sweeter it tastes.  Well anyway, hats off to Zach Johnson for winning 2007 Masters, especially when he relies on God to get him through it.  He said he prayed on the 17th hole at the final round when he got his bogey, coming into the final toughest 18th hole.  The power of prayer was working for him as he was able to take off that burden from himself and let God work through him.

It was also interesting that on the approach shot to the 17th hole, Tiger could’ve used God’s help.  Tiger was 2-shots behind Zach, so he needed two birdies to force a playoff, that was on the 17th and 18th.  A difficult task, I know, considering the 17th and 18th were some the toughest holes on the course — but it’s Tiger, he’s the superman of golf.  After his 2nd shot to greenside bunker, Tiger complained the wind didn’t help carry the ball as he expected.  He should’ve said his prayer!

I totally agree. I watched Tiger blow his chance and Zach’s interview afterwards when it was obvious he was going to win. It was touching to see Zach’s humilty and sincerity as he gave God credit for his win on Easter.
