Usually, upgrading WordPress is no big deal – click a button in the admin page, and voilà1 – done!
However, for some odd reason my hosting company allocated just small amount for my web site and I couldn’t do an auto-upgrade. I had to do it the old fashion way, and download the TAR.GZ file from WordPress.org.
Anyway, I don’t normally announce upgrades unless it’s an important milestone, or a security concern. Vladimir Prelovac mentioned the need to upgrade to 2.8.4 due to a security hole in WordPress.
I procrastinated because I felt my blog was small enough (and non-controversial), it would be a bother to hack it. Plus, I’ve protected the admin pages using IP based access.
Today, I thought since I was already in a clean-up and fix-it sort of mood, I went ahead and upgraded all of my WordPress based web sites.
It also gives me an excuse to write a blog entry about it.
hi Rudy,
So you say the upgrade is easy? Maybe I should do it too. What version did you upgrade from? I just hate to risk something going wrong, and suddenly having a “new project” (fixing an upgrade that went bad)…

PS. Thanks for dropping by. The fires are nowhere near us… this time at least!

Hey Steve,
Yeah, it’s quite easy. If you don’t do a lot of custom database changes, the upgrade is painless. I upgraded from WordPress 2.8.2.
It became painfully obvious people at “Halloween Costumes” are abusing the comments section to get links to their site. My policy for this site is for discussion, not bogus conversation. I don’t tolerate that sort of crap! So I’m shutting down the comments section for this post and deleted your post.
Sorry. It’s my blog, and I can do whatever I want with it.
