I went to Newport Beach Country Club on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm to see the Champions Tour, hosted by Toshiba. I’ve seen these senior guys on TV before, and I’ve known their names. Seeing them in real life was a different experience. I don’t go out to see golf tournaments, so when I get a chance, I usually go.
Some of the things I observed there:
- Quite a big turn out. Lots of crowd in the 1st tee. Also on 9th, 18th, and 15th greens.
- Not many giveaways.
- A lot of people like to scream (heckle?) at Fuzzy Zoeller.
- We arrived late at 2:30pm, so we missed the Toshiba “employee appreciation” lunch.
- They ran out of red hats to give away. But my wife managed to get one from one of the staff.
Eduardo Romero was on top of the leaderboard when I was watching. He went to win it on Sunday.

hey Rudy,
I’m glad to hear the golf tournament was busy. That must be a positive sign for the economy?
I admire golfers. I’ve tried golf, and appreciate how much concentration it takes. And perseverance, especially in a sand trap. 🙂 ~ Steve, the trade show guru

Well, it’s Newport Beach. They’re not really affected by the economy – do they? 🙂
Golf is not for everyone. It requires time, money, and patience – which no one really has a whole lot of.
Hey Rudy,
Your reply cracks me up! I do remember the few time I played when I lived in the midwest that racing around in the golf carts was the funnest part. I think that says how serious we were.
Time, money, and patience… yes, I could use more of all three. 🙂
