I used to be a DJ in the 80’s, and I enjoy doing party mixes for a crowd, or to a tape recorder. Having two turntables (and sometimes a drum machine), and playing various dance/club songs were fun me. It was an expensive hobby too, I bought a lot of vinyls.
Now, it looks like Activision is going to bring back memories for me with their latest game DJ Hero. It’s like Guitar Hero but using turntable and mixer instruments. I’ve been anticipating this for a while. It looks like it has the “fun” factor in it. However, just like a serious guitar player would laugh at Guitar Hero, I’m also laughing at this setup. It’s marketed to gamers, I suppose I can’t put it down too much. I’ll just roll with it, and enjoy it as pure fun & games.
Here’s the demo from E3 2009.

Having a lot of DJing in my past, I’m laughing at it too. Then again, I’m secretly coveting it 🙂
For now, I’m more excited about the new Tony Hawk skateboard controler (at least in terms of reliving the fun of youth).
Hey Jason, yeah “secretly” I’m wanting it too. 🙂
As for Skateboard controller, have you seen Microsoft’s “Project Natal” marketing video where the kid plays it on the Xbox without a controller? You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oACt9R9z37U
Yeah I saw a different video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9nuwsQ5nF4 ) on that yesterday. I think the time to upgrade from the old PS2 might be approaching 🙂
Ah yes, the PS2. I still use it to play Tiger Woods 2007. The game console might as well be the Atari 2006, with it’s blocky graphics.
DJ Jazzy Jeff in the house!! 🙂
They seem to be coming out with so many types of these music gadgets for gaming consoles.
It all started with Guitar Hero and went downhill from there. 😉
Definitely looks pretty cool, but I think I’m going to stick with Rock Band 2 until Rock Band 3. I like the music better and they tend to add new songs almost every week.
Sure it been great fun as ‘DJ’, no doubt about stunning looks, hope keep interest with Guitar Hero and DJ too.
I attend an university, and the popular game around here is definitely Rock Band, and also Guitar Hero, I wonder if DJ Hero will become the popular game like Guitar Hero and Rock Band has become with us students at the university. From the looks of it, DJ Hero looks like alot of fun, and adds a different element of challenges compared to Rock Band. I wish it could be another element to add Rock Band though, that would be fun.
One thing I do like about DJ Hero is, I like their screen displays, it looks alot cooler than anything else on the market right now for these types of games.
One of the biggest disappointments though for this game… is that it is only single player 🙁
Till then,
Jean
