Southern California has always been dry. Hardly any rain, all year around. If it wasn’t close to the Pacific Ocean, this area would be a nasty desert. Fresh water has always been scarce here. Even a colleague back East called me a “Water Sucking LA1 Man”, since we’re so thirsty for water here in SoCal.
But no more! It’s been pouring cats and dogs in the past few days. Thunder and lightning, too! There was also a tornado warning!
I love the rain – in moderation, of course. Maybe rain once a week, or even once a month. I would go crazy if the days are like Seattle or Vancouver, where it’s perpetually overcast and wet.
Happy Raining!
Regarding the photo, it was taken near Huntington Beach Pier in 2005 when water spout swelled up in the ocean. It was spectacular. More info here.

Hi Rudy,
We had the “perfect storm”. I was a bit worried because of the recent fires up here and the barren hillsides, but the rain was spaced out over the week so it worked out just great. We certainly needed it, though I’m glad the sun is shining again. Things are looking UP!
Let’s hope this much needed rain is a good omen for the rest of the year.

And it’s still drizzling today. I love the rain, in moderation, of course.
Some weather changes are visible and are truth. But so called greenhouse effect is a myth. There are no reliable data that could prove this theory. We have no idea how our planet is changing and is it changing in longer or shorter period of time. Such changes like those we observe could be visible e.g. in every 5000 years.
