American ThanksgivingThanksgiving (USA) was here.  The focus now was this “black friday” where supposedly retailers have a fire sale so good, people lined up at 4am to get stuff.  I guess when it first started, this was a good thing.  Nowadays, it’s just a scam to get us excited about nothing. Retailers are putting out a handful of items on a more-than-usual discount, but the items are hardly any good.  My wife did the morning rush thing last year, and she was very disappointed to see the same items on sale at an even cheaper price right before Christmas!  So we said, no more black friday shopping.  Not even if we can track it because we’ll be too late anyway, or we’ll be disappointed by the quality.

Now I rather wait for deals at Amazon. American Express runs MyWishList the amazing (but impossible to get) one product a week at really cheap prices. All without standing in line at the crack of dawn and freeze.

We also turned black friday into “Good Friday” when we donate to charity the same amount of money we spent on shopping.  The new getting is giving!  It is the time to give thanks during Thanksgiving.

    Yeah, I get the feeling Black Friday was a bust this year. No one in my family waited in line Friday morning and now I hear you didn’t either. DK said that some retailers even started to offer their Black Friday specials online at midnight so the days of lining up the Friday after Thanksgiving may be a thing of the past-at least it is for me.

    Stacy and I found some great deals on Friday. We both left early and had the majority of our brick and mortar shopping done by 11AM. In particular the Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off your order on top of all other coupons was a great deal, followed closely by some of the Best Buy sales.

    My neighbour’s sister lined up at 5am on black friday to pick up an Audiovox portable dvd player for $50. Some people still go out there early to get “deals”.

    On the other hand, my other neighbour went shopping at 6pm that day and picked up some LCD TV and computers. According to them, it’s the same deal they had since morning.

    For me, black Friday means this… staying in darkness ’til at least 10 or 11 in the a.m. (thank goodness for room-darkening shades!), sleeping like I rarely get to, while the kids play and talk with Grandma and Grandpa, enjoying the post-Thanksgiving glow.

    @LL

    Can your Mom & Dad come over and babysit my daughter for a few hours? 😉
