Ever since I was 8 years old, I was an avid reader of “The Adventures of Tintin” comics. Since this is an older comic book series, it has been well translated to many different languages, including mine, Bahasa Indonesia. The translation was professionally well done, very close to the English translation (perhaps French?) . Now I just read that they’ve announce the big screen adaptation of it, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Peter Jackson, no less. What I find very exciting is that they will not be doing the live action version, but rather the animated version similar to The Polar Express one, with life-like body movements. This is great because I’ve grown accustomed to see the cartoon comics, it’ll be very difficult to see them in a live actor. Plus with animation, they’ll have the relative ease to recreate some of the expansive scenes that I love, like in “Destination Moon” with the shots of the rocket in the hangar, or the train escape in “Prisoners of the Sun“. With Spielberg being a true fan of the Georges Remi’s (Herge) work and Jackson being obsessed with sticking to the original material, I’m confident they’ll treat the Tintin movie trilogy very well.
Now of course, back in the 30’s, political correctness was not in everybody’s mind. Some of the stories and characters in the comics depict that, which I’m also certain Spielberg & Jackson will not use. But there’s enough other clean material in the 22+ comics to make up a good, hopefully fun, story line.

Ok, that sounds *very* cool about the animation style! I, too, am a devoted fan of the Tintin books. I would have enjoyed a live action version–but animation sounds even better! Thanks for the news!

They tried doing the live action adaptation before, but it looked silly. They want to have a true representation of the comic books, so making the animated version is the right choice. I don’t think there’s any other way.

I loved the Polar Express Movie and I’m sure they will make TinTin just as good if not better. You can relive the polar express by getting a train set too!
