There seem to be a growing popularity with Subscribe to RSS via E-Mail feature using Feedburner. More and more bloggers use it. Frankly, I don’t quite understand the appeal. If I want to read the blog, I will go and check out the site. Does it make it easier if it’s pushed to my Inbox first? I doubt it’s easier than clicking Google Reader bookmark and then the site’s link (two clicks). Getting blog posts delivered to my inbox feels like a newsletter spam to me.
On that note, I shamelessly tried out the RSS via E-mail thingy for GorillaSushi. His minionsloyal readers (includes joetech, linkbait, Mixed Market Arts, CK Marketing, The Big Bald Blog, and How 2 Blogger) probably followed suit. Heck, I think even GorillaSushi himself subscribes to his own RSS Email. That narcissistic monkey! Am I doing this just to win $100 from his awesome contest? Heck yeah! I’m not going to settle for 2 chances, when I can try for 25 more!
Maybe I do subscribe to my own RSS email 🙂
I use Google’s RSS Reader myself and detest subscribing via RSS but unfortunately there’s no other way for contest holders to verify subscribership.
Maybe one day someone will perfect the honor system 🙂
Jason – GorillaSushi’s last blog post..I saw this a few days ago.
I use Google desktop for my reader but when I was running a contest I had people sign up via the email link so I could verify that the actually signed up. Other than that, it really doesn’t matter to me how you get my RSS. The more the merrier. Just make sure you leave a comment and join the party. Thanks for the love by the way. On a side note? Do you have Guitar Hero 3 for your Wii? It is a total blast. So fun that I am thinking about going out and getting Rock Band.

@Jason:
Honor is never perfect. 😉 Let me know when I win the grand-o-prize.
@Andy:
I tried it on my buddy’s XBOX360, and I didn’t like it that much. Plus the Wii version has bugs and pretty expensive (rare too, can’t find it anywhere). I’m more of the FPS and platform gamer.
I know what FPS is but what do you mean when you say “platform?”

Platform games such as Super Mario. My favourite is the forever awesome Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii.
Lots of people still do not understand everything about RSS as it has not yet gone mainstream. The blog post by email option allows a nice transition into RSS readers in my opinion.

Hi Colin. That’s the other thing, why is there a sudden push by bloggers to subscribe to RSS? Why is everyone boasting about their “RSS readership”? Are they simply saying, hey look my content is good enough, you don’t have to visit my website anymore?
These web trends are bizarre sometimes.
